on the Happiness Question…

December 11th, 2009 § 1

The question is simple: “Are you Happy?”

Simple and vague.  That is the question have being asking acquaintances lately to help in my process of soul-serching. And frankly, the answer I’ve being getting has beenvery enlightening, actaully it’s  surprising.

I’m moving away from asking acquaintances, I think I will embark on asking varying people representing as diverse a demography as possible. Why? I’ve argued before that I believe that the relationship between materialism and wealth is inverse.

No one, none, can ever be at the top. I’m having the philosophy that your current position [in life] depends on where you look and to what you make your comparison, we in this life are on a constant race for “more”. Ever wondered why the rich are usually the one killing themselves in greater proportion to the less endowed? Material possession is not equal happiness.

Of course, this is just my thought experiment I’m having now–or I should say, I’ve being finding happiness in means void of physical “things”.  I would pursue asking random people what is happiness to them and keep you updated on here.

Meanwhile, whatever happiness means to you, keep at it. Oh, and what is happiness to me?

ploughing through the never-ending quest

a pursuit of happiness

lost, maybe I never will find.

Alas,

what I seek afar off

right here lies, inside of me,

myself, inside, a flower sprout.

§ One Response to “on the Happiness Question…”

  • The definition of happiness obviously differs from individual to individual (Aristotle’s essays on happiness make that very clear). I do, however, believe that humans agree on a specific point/part of what it means to be happy. That one point being that WE create it.
