an unExamined Life

September 12th, 2009 View Comments

Maybe I’ve been reading too many philosophy books lately; somehow, my mind has been reflecting on my beliefs, rethinking my thoughts. As was said by Socrates, “an unexamined life is not worth living.” In the reflection, I got carried away into a world where no one was worse off. Some are not dying so others could live, or some are not being cheated for others to make it, a concept I stole from the economic terms: Pareto Optimality — this poem came up:

Thoughts:
on the highs and lows
those times we think we can be equal
on the pursuit of more and more
I get, they lose, who puts?
the fed and the unfed,
the clothed and the unclothed
the dying and the living,
this feeling of tiring thoughts,
maybe they have cease existing
a Gap:
the frequent pursuit of illusion happiness,
a pursuit of materialism,
an emptiness of the soul.
An eulogy to the have and have-nots, we
can think unfair these thoughts. I think

Existence:
I am because I am.
a state of time for the timeless being,
to re-exist, who I’m I?
I denounce self, the conscious self
that state of being, the brainwashed breed
the life I adore
that life ceasing into an unconscious self
How do we exist?
from the stone to information, never better,
an inverse relation through

Civilization:
the peaceful fowl,
the cruel man,
humans.
The fowl that lives peaceful, maybe I can imitate.
The humans that can’t, the hate,
the vain, the false sanctity of life,
the inventing of human superiority,
my track-back to self.
Who is human?
I kill human, I kill nature
I kill animals, I kill, kill, kill
I am human.
The fowl, no pursuit of happiness,
and in it there is peace.
I pursue civilization, I hallucinate happiness.

Simplicity:
unpredictable and controllable,
a return to the state of self,
the dehumanizing of you and I,
one better off, another better off.

    Seems my comment was lost…

Thanks for this post. Though I’m not sure if it’s possible to read too much philosophy. I was speaking to some recently, and he said many things, but I think what he was trying to say was the following.

The definition of metaphysics and poetry could very well be the same.

Metaphysics (noun) – 1. The philosophical study of being and knowing

By the way, were you able to add me? All I can suggest is to try again. I’m not sure what the problem would be. I’ve added you, though. :P
